Ventilation
Understanding ventilation and airflow at home
Good airflow moves conditioned air where you need it and helps manage moisture and stale air. Most of the essentials are easy to observe.
Supply and return balance
Supply registers push conditioned air into rooms while return grilles pull air back to the system. Blocking returns with furniture or rugs can make the whole system work harder.
- Locate every return grille and keep it unobstructed.
- Vacuum dust from register faces each season.
- Avoid closing many supply registers at once.
Exhaust fans and moisture
Bathroom and kitchen exhaust fans remove moisture and cooking byproducts. Running them during and shortly after use is a simple habit that supports indoor comfort.
Humidity awareness
An inexpensive hygrometer can show indoor humidity. Readings that stay unusually high or low over time may be worth discussing with a qualified professional.
